Hi Kate! There are no hard and fast rules for depth to width ratios but in most places you need to constrict the river to get flows high enough to create waves. We have designed many fish passages associated with wave and whitewater projects. Locating the exit to the fish passage is critical to fish attraction and passage success. It's very site and situation specific. Working closely with fisheries biologists and regulators is key. I hope this helps!

Hi Ben, I also read the article you guys had on drop and flow. Is there a minimum channel width/depth? I think I read 10 cfs per foot of width is a rule of thumb? Do you know what flow ratio could cause a whitewater feature to attract fish to the wrong pathway? I know that has been voiced as a concern in some places.
