Riot River 2016 – Slovak Open River Surfing Championships

Be there or be square: This year’s Riot River will take place at Areal Divoka Voda in Cunovo, August 20. The main competition starts on Saturday at 11am.

Registered surfers can practice on Friday, 19th

Registration

Each surfer must register to take part in the contest. Deadline for registrations is August 20, 10am . The registration fee of 15 Euro must be paid in cash at the surfhouse above the wave. The registration entitles the surfers to enter the wave for 3 days and includes free entrance to the concerts during the Riot River event.

Judges

Three international judges will be choosing the best surfers.

Fins

Due to the shallow wave we recommend the FCS G-X fins with a fin length of 10cm. The surface of the wave has been adjusted so that plugs are safe.

Accommodation

Please book your accommodation in advance as the rooms at the resort are being booked out quickly. The registered surfers will get a 10% discount at the hotel or bungalows of the resort. For more Information click here. Camping at the resort is for free for everyone!

Congratulations to Lukas Haigermoser (Austria) and Karine Rankine (Germany) for their stunning performance at this year’s Riot River Slovak Championships in Cunovo, Bratislava. The two amazing locals Maroš Nemec and Miška Kančevová won the Slovak Open title and impressed the crowd with their fluent style and solid manoeuvres. Huge props also go out to the organisers of this event who really know how to combine a competitive format with a fun weekend.

On Location: Cunovo Wave

Check out the third stop on the Surf Anywhere European Wave Project tour. This time we’re in Cunovo, Slovakia riding the sheet flow wave designed by Josef Bauer who brought the stoke of river surfing to a small village near Bratislava. The wave rips, the locals shred, and the falls are deadly.

The wave is in it’s third season and is a perfect example of a wave that is built into a channel that pulls off of a bigger river — the channel allows more control of the wave shape. Sepp’s conecpt is definitely a huge step forward to what can be built in a river. There is still a few tweaks that may provide some improvements to usability but hear all about it from the Bengineers in the video.

River Riot – Slovak Open 2014

After the successful Slovak Open 2013, Boardlife invites all river surfers to this year’s RIVER RIOT at the white water park in Cunovo. On Saturday, September 13, the national and international river surf elite will compete for the price money of € 2,000 having a day of fun and enjoying this glassy wave near Bratislava.

River Surfing Season Opening

River Surfing Bratislava wants to welcome all river surfing enthusiasts to their “Season Opener 2014″ on May 10th at the beautiful Conovo Wave, Slovakia. An event that features free river surfing, a surf jam with great prizes, endless party and a sick experience with great people.

The events kicks off at 10am and all surfers will be provided with free surf, gear and instructions (in case you’ve never surfed a river wave before). The cafeteria will be open so food, drinks and great music will make this day even sweeter. A surf jam will be held from 3pm to 4pm where experienced surfers will show how to get the max out of the wave. Later at night, DJ HAF , DJ CIFI, DJ SKRUPO, BAŠA will rock the house at the beach bar for your musical entertainment.

If you’re keen to join the event but don’t want to sleep in your car or tent, you can rent a cottage or a room right next to the spot (call +421 905 313 429). Well, we can only say: get down to Cunovo — you won’t regret it!

Surfers Hitting Cunovo – Riversmash 2013 Review

We just received this letter from Paskal, one of the organisers and welcoming locals at Cunovo. He has done a great job in reviewing this year’s Slovak Open. Read on what he’s got to say about the event:

Hello everyone!

First of all: everything went well. All surfers had a great deal of fun and the event was held in an excellent atmosphere. About 28 surfers (10 of which were female) registered on Friday. The wave was open for training all day on Friday, and competitors took the chance to get to know the local conditions. In the evening we held a little surfers dinner, so the competitors could socialise and get to know each other. After dinner we visited the historic center of Bratislava, giving everyone even more chance to chat.

The finals were held in a competitive atmosphere

On Saturday we had an early start, since the plan was to get the whole contest over and done with in one day. It started out with the women’s up until the semi-final, after that the men had their first rides. With only short breaks we moved on until it was time for the finals. One last longer break so finalists could catch their breath, and on we went to the last round. Only the best riders had a chance to ride in the final runs, which were very well received by spectators.

The finals were held in a pretty competitive atmosphere. Afterwards, we wrapped up the day with the price-giving ceremony, the movie premiere of Slow Dance (a surf movie), and the after-show party, where we had a couple of drinks and already started planing out next year’s event.

Riversmash Slovak Open 2013

In this three days event, national and international riders will compete for the price money of € 1.500 and a custom made river surfboard (Demon Surfboards).
