River Surfing Board Transfer

When I got to the river I found a tube. It was just laying on the side of the river. Someone left it there and I took it upon myself to try and surf it.

I tried to jump in from the side and drop in from above. The wave wasn’t strong enough to hold the tube.

The transfer is the easy part

Then I wanted to try and do a board transfer onto the river wave. The transfer is the easy part. Getting onto the wave with two boards was really hard. A board transfer doesn’t count if you don’t paddle onto the wave with the boards yourself.

Finally after a few tries I got onto the wave and made it happen!

I ended my surf session on an inflatable surfboard. It surfs so well from rail to rail for an inflatable. I never have to worry about dinging it up or anything! One of the best investments in my quiver!

River Surfing Tricknology: How to Do an Acid Drop

In river surfing an acid (or bomb) drop is a trick where you run with your board in hand and drop it as you land on it on the wave. This is also one of the first river surfing tricks that you can be able to learn as a beginner.

An acid drop is done in one motion where you jump on the board just before it hits the wave. Here’s the most important things to consider if you want to stick this trick:

Grab the board in the middle with your back hand
Spot your landing
Make sure you don’t lean too far back, you want to be centred on your board or even just a little bit forward when dropping in
Jump high enough to be able to get your board underneath you
Stabilise on the board right after landing. You can also use the momentum you gained from the drop to generate speed for pulling off higher airs (see Flo Kummer and his infamous river surfing kickflip for instance)
Try low heights first and then progress to drop from more extreme heights

Tandem River Surfing Glenwood Wave, Colorado

Kalani Vierra and Jen Koki are the first in the world to tandem surf Glenwood Wave in Colorado. Two-time tandem surfing world champion Kalani Vierra lifted Jen Koki into a series of three poses on the Colorado River Wave. On their fifth attempt on the raging river, they succeeded in performing classic tandem moves such as the cradle, swan and “fake arm to arm” before flushing off the wave.
