River surf photographer Stefan told about his work and inspirations and why river surfers are such a great subject to photograph.
Name
Robitsch Stefan | Home town: Lienz, Austria
Favourite camera(s) and equipment:
The Canon 5D Mark II and the 85mm f/1.8 prime is definitive my first choice at the moment.
When and how did you get into photography?
I was quite young when I first picked up a camera. That was when my sisters and brothers were using analog and digital cameras. I increasingly started shooting modern DSLRs two years ago, with my very first own Canon camera.
People surfing right in the heart of a town make a fantastic subject to photograph.
How did you get to shoot river surfers?
I got into it when I started surfing myself. Besides surfing, I’m also really keen on watersports and other outdoor activities such as mountaineering. I love to capture magic moments that remind me of a wonderful time.
What makes river surfing an interesting subject to photograph?
It’s the urban setting – people surfing right in the heart of a town make a fantastic subject to photograph. Other unique sceneries can be found outside of the city, where some are surfing in spectacular landscapes or mountain areas.
Have you tried to surf a river yourself?
I recently started river surfing at Radetzky on the river Mur and definitely caught the surfing bug!
What inspires you most?
People who live their lives with passion and purpose.
Your favourite river surf photo?
Where can we find some of your work?
I have my personal blog on: roscht.tumblr.com. As I’m a visual person, you won’t find many stories there but a growing collection of my favourite pics and latest work.
What are your future plans?
I recently started river surfing and definitely caught the surfing bug!
Travelling more, collecting breathtaking moments and meeting a lot of new people and cultures are definitely high on my list.
