River Surfing in Poland – Pioneers Chasing the Perfect Wave

After surfmag launched a competition to track down the best river surf spots in the country, river surfing has now officially arrived in Poland. The competition is over, the search for more is still on.

Riversurfing in Poland is still in its infancy. As we wanted to find spots for river surfing, my friends from the Polish surfmag and I hit on the idea of offering a wetsuit giveaway to the person who would discover the best surfable river wave in the country.

Having reviewed the entries, we picked the biggest waves and headed out there. Finally, the winner was a spot located at the Bobr river — a huge wave with flows of 100 cubic meters per second. It took us a couple of hours to work it out, but once we did, it was wicked. The wave is spectacular and technically challenging — sadly, it’s only surfable a few days each year, when the Bobr river is in full spate.

Since the spots have been published at surfmag, many said they’d been checking out different waves, but most of them were only smaller breaks. I know there are four or five good river surf spots in Poland, with one in the Warsaw area — we can’t wait to hit those waves!
